I'm a product-oriented experience designer based in Singapore.
UX to me is equal parts curiosity, observation, analysis, strategy, creativity, and rigour; it spans across multiple discplines and cannot sit in silos. As such, I believe in shaping the core experience of products as a whole.
I've led the redesign of the Channel NewsAsia app, localised the FordPass app experience for China, and re-imagined what the digital experience for Changi Airport could be like. Over the years, I've also had the pleasure of working with brands like Asian Civilisations Museum, 3M, DSP Blackrock, Changi Airport Group, Health Promotion Board, DBS, OCBC, Dell, Intel, and Microsoft in agencies like The Upper Storey (now Isobar), Tribal DDB and VML.
When I'm not reading articles on Medium, I try my hand at creating my own occassionally.
Thanks for stopping by!

"Mel's thirst for knowledge and improving ways of doing things is unquenchable. I had the honour of working with her when she was a senior art director and when she mentioned that she was interested in joining the UX Team I couldn’t be any happier, or quicker, to welcome her. Since crossing over to UX design, she has been a natural and has been delivering high quality work day in day out. As a team leader, she takes initiatives and you will be watching people rally around her. She is a great asset to any team."
- Will Lee, Head of UX, VML
"Mel's pretty ambidextrous as a creative. She's both left and right brain almost fully developed to conquer any brief with a wicked visual craft and business acumen. Her illustrations and her indie style brought alot of newness into the works for our clients."
- Jeff Cheong, President, Tribal Worldwide Asia & Singapore
"Melissa is a rare visual talent. In an industry where many claim to be visually proficient, most designers are rarely anything more than just trend followers. Mel has proven herself many times over to be the exception to the rule. She has a discerning eye for aesthetic and has managed to meet, and in quite a few cases resoundingly exceed, expectations in delivering quality designs.
Mel also excels in reconciling her creativity with logic. She is a thinking designer who never ceases to update her technical knowledge and skills. These qualities combined with her ability to work independently makes her an extremely valuable asset."
- Stan Lim, Executive Creative Director, Isobar
